Vanangaan Movie Review 2025: A Strained Relationship & Justice

Vanangaan Movie Review 2025

Vanangaan Movie Review: The film follows Kotti (played by Arun Vijay), a deaf and mute man who does odd jobs in Kanniyakumari. Kotti has a deep sense of justice and cannot stand when he sees wrongdoings. When he witnesses three men trying to take advantage of visually impaired girls at an orphanage, he decides to take matters into his own hands and punish the men. However, his actions put a strain on his relationship with his ‘sister’ Devi (played by Ridha), who loves and cares for him. She worries for his safety, knowing that the law will eventually catch up to him. The movie explores how Kotti’s quest for justice affects his bond with Devi.

Vanangaan Movie Review:

Vanangaan Movie Review: Bala’s Vanangaan feels like a film trying to mimic his signature style but with little fresh appeal. It contains all the familiar elements that have become a trademark of his films: a socially awkward protagonist with a strong sense of justice, a naive heroine, villains exploiting vulnerable people, and intense action sequences. Of course, like many of Bala’s films, there’s also a tragic ending.

The film takes place in Kanniyakumari and revolves around Kotti, a deaf and mute man who is protective of his ‘sister,’ Devi. Kotti’s world is turned upside down when he sees men attempting to abuse visually challenged girls at an orphanage, prompting him to take violent action against the men. Devi becomes increasingly worried about Kotti’s safety, knowing that his actions might lead to trouble.

While some elements of Vanangaan work, such as the emotional brother-sister relationship and the occasional humor through sarcastic remarks, the film often feels outdated. There are several action scenes that feel repetitive, and the romantic subplot lacks depth. Moreover, the characters aren’t fully developed, and some moments in the film, like a voyeuristic crime scene, seem out of place given the movie’s theme of condemning the exploitation of disabled individuals.

As the story progresses, the curiosity around Kotti’s disabilities adds some intrigue, but the second half relies heavily on convenient plot devices, such as an overly simplistic portrayal of a judge and an investigation officer. The film follows a predictable path with little surprise, and despite Arun Vijay’s strong performance, the film’s routine nature feels hard to overcome.
